English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is one of the most popular Mediterranean plants. With its dark purple flowers, intense fragrance, and versatility, lavender is a classic for gardens, patios, and balconies. It brings Mediterranean flair, naturalness, and tranquility to any outdoor space.

Lavender originally comes from the Mediterranean region and was already cultivated in France in the 17th century for the production of perfume and essential oils . Today it is valued for its fragrance, its blossoms and its hardiness – both as an ornamental plant and in cooking and natural medicine.

Lavandula angustifolia is perfect for borders, beds, low hedges, rock gardens, or containers . The fragrant stems are ideal for cutting, drying, or making potpourri , while the young leaves can be used to flavor Mediterranean dishes.

Lavender is easy to care for, hardy, and perennial . It prefers sunny, dry locations with well-drained, calcareous soil . Pruning twice – in spring (April) and after flowering (August–October) – encourages compact, dense growth and abundant blooms. Water regularly, but avoid waterlogging.
