Common oregano (Origanum vulgare) – also known as wild marjoram or oregano – is one of the most popular Mediterranean herbs. It impresses with its strong fragrance, aromatic leaves, and delicate pinkish-purple flowers that appear from July to September .

Oregano is a perennial, evergreen plant with a cushion-like, clump-forming growth habit . Reaching a height of 30–50 cm and a width of up to 60 cm, it is ideally suited for herb beds, rock gardens, and planters.

It prefers sunny, warm locations and well-drained, dry soil – perfect for Mediterranean garden areas or pots on balconies and patios. Oregano is traditionally valued as a culinary and medicinal herb in both cooking and natural medicine.
